The post text does half the work

Write the post before the script. If you cannot state the claim in one line of text, the video has no reason to exist. The post makes the argument, the video proves it — a demo, a screen recording, a clip of the thing happening. That division is why native X video outperforms cross-posted vertical content here.

The first frame should be readable as an image. Many people see the video paused on their timeline, so put a legible line of text in that frame rather than opening on a face mid-blink or a black fade-in.

Keep it to thirty to forty-five seconds. Longer videos are technically supported and rarely finished. If the material is genuinely longer, split it and thread it.

Structure for replies and quotes

Reach on X comes disproportionately from quote posts and replies, which means the script should contain one clippable, quotable line — a sentence that survives being screenshotted without the rest of the video. Write it deliberately and put it early enough that people reach it.

Threads are the native way to extend a video. Post the video, then reply with the caveats, the sources, and the longer version. That keeps the top post tight while giving anyone who cares somewhere to go.

Be in the replies. A conversation under the post is worth more than a second post, and on X the reply window is short — the first thirty minutes decide most of the distribution.

Common mistakes on X

Uploading a TikTok. Vertical crops badly in the timeline and the TikTok cadence — text overlays, jump cuts, trending audio — reads as imported.

Opening with a title card. Nobody waits three seconds for your logo to fade in on this platform.

No captions. Autoplay is muted here too, and X's caption support depends on the upload path, so burn them in.

Putting the link in the post. If you need a link, put it in the first reply and say what is behind it.
