Best time to post on social media

The best time to post is the window when the people who follow you are already looking at the app, and it is different on every platform because every platform decides differently who sees a post. Where distribution runs mostly through your existing followers — LinkedIn, Facebook — timing is close to the whole game. Where distribution runs through an interest graph — TikTok, YouTube — timing sets how fast a post starts, not whether it eventually finds an audience. Pick the platform you actually publish to below; the cross-platform view underneath is a starting point, not an answer.

Reviewed for 2026. We publish only posting times we measured from posts sent through Bolta.

Best posting times across every platform

One row per platform, each linking through to the day-by-day detail.

Our cross-platform figures are not published yet

We only publish posting times we measured ourselves, from posts actually published through Bolta. That aggregate is still being compiled, so this page shows the reasoning without the numbers rather than recycling someone else’s round figures. It is excluded from search results until the data lands.

In the meantime, Bolta’s Optimal Time already computes the answer for your own account rather than a benchmark average.

Choose your platform

Each guide covers the whole week for that platform, plus why its audience behaves the way it does.

Methodology

These pages report posting times measured from posts published through Bolta — our own data, not a third-party benchmark. The aggregate is still being compiled, so no sample size, date range or figures are published yet and this page is excluded from search results.

When it publishes, this block will state the exact post count, the number of accounts, and the date range behind every number on the page.

What a benchmark table can and cannot tell you

A table like this is an average across many accounts, and an average is a claim about a population rather than about you. It is genuinely useful for one job: giving a new account a defensible place to start instead of a guess. It is also useful as a sanity check — if your own schedule sits nowhere near the aggregate, that is worth understanding.

What it cannot do is tell you when your followers are awake. Two accounts on the same platform can have opposite answers because their audiences live in different time zones, work different hours, or come to the platform for different reasons. An aggregate flattens exactly the variation you are trying to exploit.

It also cannot tell you what timing is worth relative to everything else. Format, hook and relevance decide whether a post earns attention; timing decides how many people are given the chance to give it. And a benchmark is a snapshot — audiences grow, habits move, platforms change how they rank things, and any published table starts drifting the day it is measured. Treat it as a hypothesis with an expiry date, and let your own history overrule it as soon as you have enough of it.

The posting-time aggregate behind this page is one of the studies in Bolta Research, where we publish the methodology alongside every benchmark we measure from product data. For what changed for the accounts using it, see Bolta customer results.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one best time to post on social media?
No. There is a best time for a given audience on a given platform, and it moves as that audience changes. Every cross-platform table you have ever read — including ours — is an average of other people's followers. Its only honest use is as a starting hypothesis for an account with no history of its own.
Why do posting times differ so much between platforms?
Because the platforms answer different questions when they decide what to show. LinkedIn and Facebook distribute mostly to people who already follow you, so reach tracks when those specific people open the app. TikTok and YouTube distribute mostly by interest, so a post can find its audience long after it went live. Instagram, X and Threads sit in between, weighting the reaction a post earns in its first minutes. Timing matters most where distribution depends on who happens to be online.
Should I post the same content at the same time everywhere?
No, and the reason is structural rather than stylistic. A professional audience is reachable inside its own working hours; an entertainment audience is reachable in its leisure hours; and an interest-graph platform is barely time-bound at all. Cross-posting one schedule to all of them optimises for whichever platform you happened to pick first and quietly underserves the rest.
How do I find the best time to post for my own audience?
Gather enough of your own history that a pattern is distinguishable from noise, then compare posts against each other rather than against a benchmark: same platform, same format, same kind of message, different send times. Native analytics on each platform will show you when your followers are active, which is a good proxy. The step most people skip is re-checking — the answer decays as the audience grows and shifts.
Does posting at the best time matter more than what you post?
No. Timing changes how many people get the chance to see a post; it does not change whether they want to. Timing is a multiplier on content that already works, and a multiplier on nothing is still nothing. Fix the post first, then the schedule.
Do weekends really perform worse?
It depends entirely on why your audience is on the platform. Weekends are structurally different in two ways that pull in opposite directions: fewer accounts publish, so there is less competition for attention, but audiences whose reason for being there is work simply are not there. A consumer brand can find weekends among its strongest days while a B2B account finds them dead — from the same calendar.

Stop looking up posting times

A benchmark table is an average of other people's audiences. Bolta's Optimal Time reads your own every platform you post to history and schedules each post into the window that actually works for your account — then keeps adjusting as the audience shifts.
