Write it as a message, not a broadcast

The register that works on Threads is casual and specific. Overproduced video stands out in the wrong way here: a clean cut, plain speech and an actual opinion outperform anything with a music bed and a lower third. If the script sounds like an announcement, rewrite it as something you would say out loud to one person.

Keep it under about thirty seconds. Threads supports up to five minutes, but the feed's rhythm is reading, and a long video is a much bigger ask than a long post. If the material needs three minutes, it probably wants to be a text post with a short clip attached.

Skip the greeting and the sign-off entirely. Start on the sentence, end when the sentence is done.

The reply chain is the format

Threads distribution runs on conversation more than on completion. The most reliable structure is a video that states one position clearly and leaves an obvious opening — a question you genuinely do not know the answer to, an edge case you have not solved, a claim someone will want to correct.

Then keep replying in your own thread. Adding the second point as a reply rather than cramming it into the video gives the post another surface, and each reply pulls the original back into circulation.

Hashtags are not the mechanic here — Threads uses a single topic tag and the culture is against keyword stuffing. Write for the people already in the conversation instead of for search.

What not to do on Threads

Reposting an Instagram Reel unchanged. The Reels grammar — trending audio, fast text overlays, a hard CTA — reads as marketing in a feed that is mostly people talking.

Adding a call to action. On Threads it flattens the post; the follow comes from the conversation.

Front-loading a hook that sounds like a hook. "Stop scrolling" belongs to a different platform.

Making the video mandatory. Write the post so it stands alone, then the video is a bonus rather than a gate.
