Best time to post on Instagram on Sunday
Sunday is the reset. Browsing is unhurried like Saturday, but the frame shifts through the day from leisure toward planning the week ahead — and Sunday is the only weekend day whose wider distribution lands in weekday sessions. In our own data that window is 10am–11am in audience local time, peaking at 10am.

What makes Sunday different on Instagram
Sunday shares Saturday's mechanics — long unhurried sessions, very little competing brand content — but not Saturday's mindset. As the day goes on the audience's frame tilts from pure leisure toward getting ready for the week, which makes Sunday the one weekend day where forward-looking content does not feel out of place.
It is also the only weekend day with real runway. A Sunday post's short follower stage happens in a weekend session, while its longer recommendation stage runs into a week of weekday sessions. Saturday's second life lands on Sunday; Sunday's lands on the working week.
Sunday's old reputation as the worst day for feed posts is worth treating carefully. It is genuinely the low point for volume of people in a business frame, but it is also near the low point for content published, and those two facts partly cancel. Test it rather than inheriting the verdict.
The only weekend day with a week in front of it
Everything on Instagram gets its early engagement from your followers and its wider reach, if any, from recommendation surfaces afterwards. Sunday is the only day where those two stages land in genuinely different modes: a relaxed weekend audience qualifies the post, and a working-week audience receives the consequences.
If you publish once at the weekend and want the post still working on Monday, that asymmetry is the argument for choosing Sunday.

Frequently asked questions
Is Sunday really the worst day to post on Instagram?
That claim is repeated more confidently than the evidence supports. Sunday has fewer people in a purposeful frame, but it also has almost no competing brand content and unusually long sessions, and it is the only weekend day whose wider distribution reaches into weekday sessions. It is a plausible day, not a dead one.
What should I post on Sunday?
Either something to unwind with, early on, or something week-facing later, when people are planning. Sunday is one of the few days where a preview, a plan or a what's-coming post reads as helpful rather than as an interruption.
Is Sunday better than Saturday?
For anything that should still be circulating on Monday, yes — a Sunday post's second life runs into the working week, while a Saturday post's runs into Sunday. For pure entertainment there is little between them.
Should I use Sunday for Stories instead of feed posts?
Stories fit the day well because people dip in repeatedly across a slow day, and the tray rewards being there when they look. That is a reason to post Stories on Sunday, not a reason to skip the feed.

A benchmark table is an average of other people's audiences. Bolta's Optimal Time reads your own Instagram history and schedules each post into the window that actually works for your account — then keeps adjusting as the audience shifts.
Methodology
Instagram Sunday figures are aggregated from 11,258 posts published through Bolta across 104 accounts, April 2026 to July 2026. Times are expressed in audience-local.
Audience-local starting windows from the prior Bolta recommendation baseline. These are a defensible starting point, not account-specific optimization; use Bolta's Optimal Time once your own audience history is available.
