Lesson 1: Why Telegram, Not Email

When Bolta needed a place to talk to your agents, the team picked Telegram for a few reasons that matter:

  1. It's already on your phone. No new app, no new login.
  2. Notifications are good without being noisy. Telegram doesn't bury messages or rate-limit you.
  3. It's actually fast. Approvals happen in seconds, not the 30 seconds it takes to load Gmail.
  4. Group chats work. You can put your agents in a chat with your co-founder or social manager and everyone sees what's happening.

If you've used Slack approvals, Telegram will feel familiar. If you've never used Slack approvals, this will feel like discovering a missing limb.

What it replaces

  • The Bolta web inbox (still works — just slower for quick approvals).
  • Email digests (great for weekly summaries, terrible for "approve this in 3 minutes").
  • Manually checking the calendar to see what's about to post.

What it doesn't replace

  • The web app for setup (hiring agents, editing personas, configuring jobs).
  • Long-form context — Telegram is for fast actions, not deep work.
  • Analytics dashboards — Telegram surfaces highlights; the web app shows the full picture.

Lesson 2: What You Can Do From Telegram

The Telegram surface gives you four core actions and a handful of nice-to-haves.

Core actions

  1. Approve — Tap a button. The post goes live on its scheduled time.
  2. Edit — Reply to the message with your edit. The agent updates the post and re-sends for approval (or just publishes, if autonomy allows).
  3. Reject — Kill the post. The agent learns from the rejection.
  4. Ask — Reply with a question. The agent answers in-line. "Why did you pick this hook?" "What would the carousel version look like?"

Nice-to-haves

  • "Pause this agent for 24h" — Useful when you're in a sensitive moment and don't want any output.
  • "Run this job now" — Trigger a manual job from your phone.
  • "What's coming up in the next 24h?" — Quick schedule preview.
  • "Show me last week's performance" — Light analytics summary.

What it looks like in practice

A typical Telegram exchange:

  1. Bolta: "Hype-Man drafted a post for Threads, scheduled 11 AM ET. Hook: 'I shipped three failed startups before this one. Here's what I'd tell my younger self.' Tap to approve, edit, or skip."
  2. You: "Edit: change 'younger self' to 'past self.' Same energy, less cliché."
  3. Bolta: "Updated. Re-scheduled for 11 AM. Approve to lock in."
  4. You: tap approve.

That's the entire interaction. 30 seconds. Zero context-switching.

Lesson 3: Patterns That Work (and Don't)

Telegram is fast, but speed is double-edged. Here's what works in practice.

Patterns that work

  1. Approve in batches. When you sit down with coffee, blast through the morning's queued approvals in 5 minutes.
  2. Use "ask" liberally. When you're not sure why an agent made a choice, ask. The answer often reveals a persona refinement opportunity.
  3. Edit small. Big edits should be persona changes, not per-post rewrites. If you're rewriting every post, fix the source.
  4. Group chat for teams. Add a co-founder or social manager. Now everyone sees what's going out and can intervene.

Patterns that don't

  1. Approving while distracted. It's easier to tap "approve" than to actually read. If you find yourself rubber-stamping, either move the agent to Auto (you trust it) or pull it back to Manual (you don't).
  2. Treating Telegram as the primary interface for setup. It's not. Hire agents and edit personas in the web app; use Telegram for daily ops.
  3. Ignoring the daily summary. Telegram sends a short daily recap of what posted, what performed, and what needs attention. Skipping it means missing easy refinements.

Mobile-only mode

Some founders run their entire Bolta workforce from Telegram on mobile. It's not the recommended setup for week one, but if you're traveling or off-laptop, the core daily loop (approve, edit, ask) is fully covered.

Common myths

  1. "Telegram is for chat, not work." Bolta's Telegram surface is a structured workflow with buttons and reply parsing. It's not a chatbot.
  2. "My team won't use Telegram." They will if it saves them time. Try it for a week.
  3. "I'll miss approvals if I don't watch." Bolta sends a reminder before any scheduled-for-Auto post is about to go live. You can intervene up to the minute.

Action Steps

  1. If you haven't connected Telegram yet, do it now. It's two minutes — type /start to your Bolta bot and follow the link from your workspace settings.
  2. Approve your next 5 outputs from Telegram instead of the web app. Time how long it takes.
  3. Reply to one with an "ask" — a real question about why the agent made a specific choice. Notice what the answer tells you about your persona.

Telegram is the difference between "I'll deal with social media after lunch" and "social media handled itself, I'll glance at the recap." Use it. Next: the self-improvement loop — how every approval makes your agents better.
