Lesson 1: Which Presets Fit Instagram

Instagram's visual emphasis means Bolta agents play a different role here than on text-heavy platforms.

Hype-Man — caption-focused fit

Hype-Man can't make Reels for you (yet). What it can do:

  1. Draft captions for Reels and carousels you've recorded.
  2. Generate carousel slide text based on a topic prompt.
  3. Schedule and queue posts for optimal times.
  4. Refresh Highlights cover designs (with Canva/Figma integration if set up).

Configuration tips:

  • Train Voice DNA specifically on your existing Instagram captions.
  • Set caption length defaults — 100-300 chars for most, 800-2000 for long-form posts.
  • Let Hype-Man propose hashtag pools; you approve which ones make the rotation.

Hunter — moderate fit

Hunter's role on Instagram is narrower than on X or Bluesky:

  1. Find collab opportunities. Accounts in your niche posting recently.
  2. Surface mention/tag opportunities. Posts where adding your perspective would fit.
  3. Track competitor patterns. What similar accounts are posting and how it's performing.

Hunter doesn't drive replies on Instagram the way it does on X — Instagram's reply mechanic is less reach-driving. Use Hunter for collab discovery, not reply automation.

Engager — strong fit

Engager handles your DMs and comment replies. Instagram's DM volume can be heavy if you're growing; Engager filters and drafts responses.

Configuration tips:

  • Set autonomy to Manual or Assisted for DMs (replies on Instagram are read closely).
  • Use Engager for comment replies more freely; comments on Instagram are lower-stakes than DMs.
  • Define filtering: which DMs need your eyes (high-priority senders, business inquiries) vs which Engager can handle (FAQ, generic engagement).

Analyst — strong fit

Instagram has rich metrics; Analyst can surface patterns you'd never spot manually.

Configuration tips:

  • Track save rate as the headline metric, not likes.
  • Watch which Reel hooks correlate with watch-through rate.
  • Compare carousel completion rates across formats.

Relationship Manager — situational fit

Useful if you're using Instagram for B2B founder presence or building partnerships. Less useful for pure broadcast accounts.

Lesson 2: Caption Automation Without Losing Voice

The risk with auto-generated captions: they sound generic. Here's how to avoid that.

Train Voice DNA on Instagram-specific samples

Most accounts have a different voice on Instagram than on X or LinkedIn. If you trained Voice DNA on Twitter posts, your Instagram captions will read off.

The fix:

  1. Pull 25 of your best Instagram captions (the ones that earned saves and comments).
  2. Add them to a dedicated Instagram voice profile.
  3. Use this profile only for Instagram-bound jobs.

Use the post brief, not just the topic

Generic caption prompts ("write a caption for a Reel about productivity") produce generic captions.

The pattern that works:

  1. Describe the visual content. "Reel shows me at my desk, time-lapse of writing a tweet."
  2. State the takeaway. "The takeaway: most tweets need 3 rewrites before they work."
  3. Specify the caption job. "Caption should set up the Reel with a contrarian hook, end with a question."

This gives Hype-Man enough to write a caption that fits the visual, not a caption that's just topical filler.

Always preview before posting

Even with great Voice DNA, captions need eyes:

  1. Read the caption next to the visual. Do they fit?
  2. Read the caption out loud. Does it sound like you?
  3. Test the first line specifically. Does it earn the "see more" tap?

A 30-second preview prevents the off-voice posts that erode audience trust.

Caption editing is training

When you edit a Hype-Man caption draft, the agent learns. Edit thoughtfully — not just polish, but direction. Tighten hooks; cut filler; preserve voice. The agent's drafts get sharper over weeks.

Lesson 3: Cross-Posting Reels to Threads

Reels and Threads are both Meta. They share infrastructure, audience, and surface in interesting ways.

Why cross-posting Reels to Threads works

  1. Shared audience. Many Instagram users are also on Threads.
  2. Threads's emerging Reels surface. Threads pulls Instagram Reels into its own discovery.
  3. Different reply culture. A Reel that did okay on Instagram can find a different audience on Threads.

How to do it well

  1. Don't auto-cross-post the same caption. Threads norms are different. Re-write the caption for Threads voice.
  2. Use Bolta to handle the cross-post. Hype-Man can draft a Threads-specific version of the post in your Threads voice profile.
  3. Don't cross-post every Reel. Only the ones that have a clear text-friendly hook. Pure visual Reels with no narrative don't translate.

What to keep, what to change

Keep:

  • The Reel itself (Threads pulls native).
  • The core message.

Change:

  • The caption (rewrite for Threads, shorter and more conversational).
  • Hashtags (Threads uses very few, if any).
  • CTAs (Threads CTAs are softer than Instagram's).

When not to cross-post

  1. Performance-sensitive content. A high-stakes launch Reel might benefit from being Instagram-exclusive.
  2. Time-sensitive content. If posted on Instagram first, the Threads version may feel late.
  3. Reels with on-screen text designed for Instagram only. Aspect ratios and visible text may look weird on Threads.

The cadence

A reasonable rule: cross-post 30-50% of your Reels to Threads. Pick the ones with the strongest text hooks. Skip the rest.

Common myths

  1. "Cross-posting always helps." It doesn't — same content with worse voice fit hurts.
  2. "I should automate everything." Caption automation is fine; final review never is.
  3. "Bolta replaces my creative work." It doesn't. It removes the boring work so your creative work has more room.

Action Steps

  1. Audit your current Instagram Voice DNA. Was it trained on Instagram-specific content? If not, refresh.
  2. Configure Hype-Man with the post-brief pattern from Lesson 2. Use it for the next 10 captions.
  3. For the next month, cross-post your strongest Reels to Threads with rewritten captions. Track performance differences.

Bolta on Instagram is about removing caption and DM friction so you can focus on visuals and relationships. Configure deliberately. Last Instagram lesson: the mistakes that quietly kill new accounts.
