How often to post, honestly

Once a week is enough. Twice is plenty. LinkedIn is not a volume channel for a contractor, and running it like your Facebook page will burn you out on it inside a month.

A workable month: one hiring or crew post, one supplier or material post, one operations or business-of-contracting post, and one commercial-capability post. Rotate them. Real news — a big award, a new certification, a second location, a key hire — replaces whatever was scheduled.

Explain a call you made and the trade-off behind it. Other contractors engage with this, and contractors refer work and people to each other. Opener: "We stopped taking jobs outside a forty-minute radius this year. Here is what the drive time was actually costing us."

The commercial maintenance explainer

Unglamorous and specific. Response times, what a service agreement covers, portfolio size, what you will not take on. Opener: "Our maintenance agreements cover a twenty-four-hour response on leaks and a scheduled inspection twice a year. Here is what they do not cover."

The crew milestone

A promotion, an apprenticeship finished, a licence earned. Post with their permission and name what they actually did. Opener: "Our lead estimator started as a helper here six years ago and just closed the largest job we have ever bid."

The safety or standards post

How you run a site, stated as practice rather than a slogan. Opener: "We do a five-minute walk at the start of every job and it has caught two things this year that would have been serious."

Posting your residential before-and-afters

Writing like a company brochure

The instinct on LinkedIn is to sound corporate. It performs worse than plain speech and in the trades it reads as fake immediately. Write the way you would talk to another owner in a supply house parking lot.

Hiring posts with no pay band

A wall of requirements with no number, no start time and no honesty about the hard parts gets ignored by the experienced people you want and answered by the ones you do not. Post the range.

A promotion or milestone post is public and permanent, and your employee may not want their current situation broadcast. Ask first, every time, and let them see the draft. This is a good use of the approval step.
