## Lesson 1: Why Organic Reach Is Structurally Low

The "Facebook organic reach is dead" complaint is half right. Here's the actual situation.

### The numbers

Average organic reach per post on a Facebook Page in 2026:

- **Pages under 1K followers:** 5-15%.
- **Pages 1K-10K:** 3-8%.
- **Pages 10K-100K:** 2-5%.
- **Pages 100K+:** 1-3%.

A Page with 10,000 followers reaching 200-500 people per post is normal.

### Why it's structurally low

1. **News Feed capacity.** Each user has limited feed space; competition is brutal.
2. **Meta's monetization.** Meta wants Page owners to pay for reach. The system is engineered for it.
3. **Page content competing with personal content.** Personal Profile content wins by default in News Feed.
4. **Algorithmic punishment of cold posts.** Posts with low early engagement get throttled fast.

### What's not dead

1. **Reels.** Reels on Facebook reach far beyond Page followers. The reach gap between Reels and feed posts on Pages mirrors Instagram's gap.
2. **Groups.** Group posts get notification-driven reach to members.
3. **Ad-amplified posts.** A small ad budget multiplies reach dramatically.
4. **Messenger.** 1:1 conversations bypass feed throttling entirely.

### The strategic implication

If your Facebook strategy is "post text/images to a Page," you'll be frustrated. If your strategy is "Reels on Pages + Groups + Messenger + ads," the platform works.

## Lesson 2: What You Can Actually Do

Three things meaningfully improve Page organic reach.

### Tactic 1 — Post Reels

Reels on Facebook are the largest-reach surface available. The algorithm pushes them aggressively. Even a Page with 1,000 followers can hit 50K+ views on a single Reel.

**How to use Reels on Pages:**
- Aim for 2-4 Reels per week.
- Cross-post your Instagram Reels (with caption rewrites for Facebook tone).
- Optimize hooks and watch-through rate the same way you would on Instagram.

### Tactic 2 — Lean into Groups

Groups have notification-driven reach. A post in a Group reaches 30-60% of members reliably — vastly higher than Page reach.

**How to use Groups:**
- If you don't have one, build one around your niche.
- If you have one, post in it more than your Page (3-5x per week).
- Use the Group for community: questions, AMAs, beta access.

### Tactic 3 — Drive Messenger conversations

Messenger reach is essentially 100% (notifications hit). Plus, conversations build customer relationships in ways feed posts can't.

**How to use Messenger:**
- Use Page CTA "Send Message" to drive 1:1.
- Run lead-gen ads to Messenger conversations.
- Set up auto-reply sequences for common questions.

### Tactic 4 — Engagement-first posting

For the feed posts you do make, optimize for early engagement velocity:

1. **Post questions.** Comments are king on Facebook.
2. **Reply to every comment within an hour.** Velocity signals.
3. **Use polls.** Native polls get high engagement rates.
4. **Post when your audience is active.** Page Insights tells you when.

### What doesn't help

1. **Posting more.** Past 5 feed posts per week, reach per post drops faster than total reach grows.
2. **Boosted posts on bad content.** Boosting a weak post makes the weak post reach more people. Doesn't help your business.
3. **Stuffing posts with hashtags.** Doesn't work on Facebook.

## Lesson 3: The Paid:Organic Ratio That Works

If you're serious about Facebook for business, you'll eventually run paid ads. Knowing the right ratio matters.

### What "paid:organic" means

The ratio of your Facebook reach driven by ads vs organic posts.

### The realistic ratios

For most small businesses on Facebook in 2026:

- **0% paid (organic only):** Frustrating. Reach is low; growth is slow. Acceptable if Facebook is a low priority.
- **20-40% paid:** Minimum viable. A small ad budget ($50-200/month) amplifies your best organic content significantly.
- **50-70% paid:** What most established businesses run. Organic still matters (for trust), but paid drives the actual customer acquisition.
- **90%+ paid:** Pure ad-driven. Some businesses run this; works fine if the unit economics work.

### The minimum viable ad budget

You don't need thousands. A starter approach:

1. **$5-10 per day** boosting your best-performing organic posts.
2. **$10-20 per day** running a "follow our Page" campaign to your target audience.
3. **$10-50 per day** running a Messenger lead-gen campaign.

Total: $25-80 per day. Scales as the business grows.

### What to boost vs run as a standalone ad

1. **Boost posts that are already performing organically.** Take a winner; amplify it.
2. **Run standalone ads** for specific outcomes — newsletter signup, lead form, product purchase.

Don't boost every post. Boosting weak content wastes money.

### Common myths

1. *"If I post enough good content, organic will work."* It won't, structurally, on a Page. Lean into Reels, Groups, and ads.
2. *"I shouldn't pay Meta."* You can choose not to, but understand the cost is reach.
3. *"Facebook ads don't work anymore."* They work better than ever for businesses with clear targeting and offers. Many businesses get 4-10x ROAS.

### Action Steps

1. Audit your last 30 days of Facebook posts. What was your reach per post? Note the median.
2. Assess your current paid:organic ratio. If you're at 0% and Facebook matters to your business, plan a $5-10/day starter budget.
3. If you're not posting Reels on your Page, plan to start within the next 14 days.

Facebook's reach reality is structural. You can't out-post the algorithm — but you can use the surfaces (Reels, Groups, Messenger, ads) that still work. Next lesson: Reels on Facebook specifically.
